One Act Play Wins District |
THS Drama competed in the UIL OAP contest this year. They performed Look Homeward Angel, written by Ketti Frings, which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1957. An American classic, this powerful play captures the humor and the grief, both private and universal, of Thomas Wolfe's novel about a youth coming of age. Concentrating on the last third of Wolfe's story, the play vividly portrays Eugene Gant, his mother who is obsessed by her material holdings and who maintains barriers against the love of her family, the father a stonecutter imprisoned by his failures, and the brother who never breaks away.

Professional Learning Communities |
Staff members at each of the TISD campuses will implement the concept of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) during the 2008-09 school year. PLCs are schools in which the teachers and administrators continuously seek and share learning in order to increase their effectiveness for students. PLCs provide teachers with time to plan and collaborate.
One way to accomplish this planning time is to schedule time one day each week specifically for that purpose. Students at each campus will begin class at 8:25 a.m. each Wednesday instead of 8:00 a.m. Staff members will come to school at 7:45 a.m. as usual on those days. |

During the 2008-09 school year TISD will implement an incentive program for students and staff members to encourage/reward good attendance. Each six weeks names will be drawn from those students at each campus who have had perfect attendance. Students whose names are drawn will receive rewards valued at $100. Auxiliary staff members whose names are drawn will receive $150 and professional staff members will receive an award of $200. |
