Swinburn Elementary’s Equitable

Access Plan:

Race, Gender, SEC, etc.

Swinburn Elementary School provides a fair and equitable learning environment regardless of gender, race, socio-economic status, physical or mental limitations, allowing access to all available technology and technology learning experiences. There will be continuous updates and implementations in technology as programs become available.

Placement of Computers within the School

Access to technology requires that it be readily at hand for use as needed, not simply for uses that can be predicted in advance and squeezed into a fixed time slot. With this in mind, computers will be placed throughout the campus to allow for maximum accessibility with minimum student movement required for access. Each classroom will have multimedia computers for DAILY technology integration into the curriculum with a technology lab available for those projects requiring individual or whole class computer access.

Access to Technology Literate Teachers

Swinburn students will have technology literate instructors who integrate authentic technology use throughout the curriculum on a daily basis. The Swinburn Technology Action Team provides leadership, tech support and staff development with regard to curriculum integration. Interested parents and community members are invited to participate in this action team.

Equitable Access for All Students

All students in the classroom will be provided the same equal access to computers in their classroom studies. Computers will be used by teachers to motivate, extend, and enrich student knowledge in the core subjects as well as enrichment subjects. All students will further be enriched by technology in the CCC Lab, the Internet Lab and with individual assistance in the Power Lab.

Equitable Access for Disabled Persons

Campus technology equipment will easily accessible to all students regardless of disability and classroom location. Classrooms will be arranged to allow for wheelchair accessibility or adaptive/assistive devices. Adaptive/assistive devices will be acquired and installed as needed through coordination with the district special education director and collaboration with Region 16 ESC.
