"Working together with a common goal of teaching students to become learners"
Students in pre-kindergarten through second grade attend Highland Elementary. It is our goal to work with students, teachers and parents to create an excitement for learning for a lifetime.
Students receive educational opportunities through classroom, small group and specialized instruction. All students have access to computer time daily. Partcipation in long distance programming allows students the opportunity to experience other cultures and programs that they might not otherwise have opportunity to experience.
Each student participates in daily enrichment through Physical Education and Fine Arts classes. A free breakfast is available for every student.
The core curriculum is TEKS driven through the use of McMillan/ McGraw/ Hill reading series, Macmillan Math, Scot Foresman Science and Harcourt Brace Social Studies. In addition, students are offered opportunities to acclerate their learning through tutorials and the use of computer programs such as CEI Essential Learning Systems (reading) and Math Learning Systems. Technology enhances student learning through Symphony Math, Lexia Learning, Renaissance Place, and Education City.
All visitors must sign in at the front office to receive a pass before entering the building. Opportunities for volunteers include reading with students, listening to students read, helping teachers with special projects, work on classroom decorations or lesson aids and copying or helping with paperwork.
Special programs are scheduled throughout the year. Be sure to check the district's events calendar.
